The marketing and communications teams at the San Diego Community College District and its colleges were recognized in four categories as among the best in California by a statewide community college marketing organization.

The district’s Marketing, Communications, & Public Affairs team was recognized with a gold award in the TV/Digital Streaming Category and a silver award for the district’s new logo. San Diego City College received a gold award in the category of Video: Special Message and San Diego College of Continuing Education won a silver award for Video Profile.

The awards were handed out April 10 at the annual conference of the Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO) held at the Kona Kai Resort in San Diego.

Both of the district’s entries celebrate SDCCD’s new set of logos, which feature a sunburst design inspired by the radiating energy of the sun, and a new tagline of “Be. Belong. Become.” The marketing campaign encourages students to imagine what they can become through the outstanding educational opportunities available at the District’s colleges – San Diego City, Mesa, Miramar, and Continuing Education.

The winning City College video documents a transformational trip to Ghana taken by longtime Facilities employee Jacqueline Bonner. College of Continuing Education’s silver-award video tells the story of Marisol Sosa, who completed levels 1-7 in the ESL Program before she earned her high school equivalency certificate and became the college’s 2024 student commencement speaker.

“I’m pleased that the hard work of our marketing and communications teams was recognized by our peers across the state,” said Jack Beresford, Vice Chancellor of Marketing, Communications & Public Affairs for SDCCD.

In addition to the marketing awards, CCPRO also awarded a $500 Writing Scholarship to City College student David Bohnet in recognition of his efforts in pitching and publishing compelling news stories in his campus publication, City Times.

CCPRO is a professional development organization for marketing professionals at California’s 116 community colleges. Almost 500 entries in a wide range of categories were submitted for its awards contest recognizing work completed in 2024.
