Chancellor's Cabinet Report 09-08-26

Prior Week’s Key Accomplishments:

City College:

1. “A” Building Expansion: A president and executive review committee review of the Design Development (DD) plans was held on Aug. 31.
2. Learning Resource Center (LRC) Library Remodel: A meeting with the campus was held on Aug. 31 to review the updated budget for the expanded scope, including improvements to the first, second, and third floors, swing space cost considerations, and next steps.

Mesa College:

1. Design Center Improvements: Division of the State Architect (DSA) approval was received on Aug. 27, with stamped drawings pending. A final bid document review was held on Sep. 3, and the Notice Inviting Bids was posted on Sep. 4.
2. Athletics Complex: Tours of both the Orange Coast College Aquatics and Long Beach City College Aquatics Facilities were held on Sep. 2 for the aquatics faculty, led by the Design-Build Entity (DBE). Meetings with the DBE, district design team, and geotechnical engineers were held on Sep. 4 to continue coordinating shoring and structural design considerations.
3. Performing Arts Center (PAC) / Administration & Parking Structure: Follow-up breakout meetings from the first DD workshop were held on Sep. 4 with the Costume Shop and Maintenance and Operations groups.

Miramar College:

1. Police Academy (A200) Building HVAC Upgrades (10 Classrooms and 2 Offices): ACCO Engineered Systems completed the final punch-list items on Aug. 30.
2. Diesel Tech (C3) Building Roll-Up Door Repairs: The project was completed on Aug. 31.
3. Early Education Center: The DBE finalized the construction logistics plan and presented it to campus leadership on Sep. 2. The DBE also hosted a DD workshop with campus stakeholders on Sep. 2.
4. Aviation Instructional Center: A site walk with the DBE and City of San Diego was held on Sep. 2 at the potential relocation site at Montgomery Field. The team identified a promising alternative site for further evaluation.
5. Performing Arts Center & English/Gallery Building: The DBE is continuing development of the 50% DD deliverable.

College of Continuing Education:

1. West City Expansion: A focus group meeting with the district electrical and plumbing teams was held on Sep. 1.
2. Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) Theatre Renovation: A site tour with the Executive President’s Cabinet (EPC) was held on Sep. 1.
3. New College of Continuing Education (CCE) Site: A DSA fire and life safety coordination meeting was held on Sep. 1.
4. CE Mesa Ceramics: A project scope review meeting with stakeholders for this new project was held on Sep. 3.

Coming Week Look-Ahead:

City College:

1. “A” Building Expansion: Design review meetings with the facilities team are scheduled for Sep. 8 and 10, with an architectural review meeting scheduled for Sep. 9.

Mesa College:

1. Athletics Complex: A review of the 100% Schematic Design (SD) construction cost estimate is scheduled for the week of Sep. 7.
2. Performing Arts Center / Administration & Parking Structure: DD workshops with the Recording Studio Control Room and Sound Stage groups are scheduled for Sep. 9 and 11.
3. Design Center Improvements: Pre-bid conferences and site walks are scheduled for Sep. 10 and 11.

Miramar College:

1. Early Education Center: The DBE will host a DD meeting with campus stakeholders on Sep. 10. Coordination with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will also continue to determine whether a revised design is needed to address the existing gas utility line.
2. Aviation Instructional Center: The DBE will continue development of the 50% Construction Documents (CD) deliverable and finalize new service requirements with SDG&E. The design team will also evaluate the potential alternative site to determine its suitability for the new building.
3. Performing Arts Center & English/Gallery Building: The DBE will continue development of the 50% DD deliverable and host a DD meeting with campus stakeholders on Sep. 10.
4. Aquatic Center Pool Center Deck Replacement and Replaster: The 90% CD review by the district is underway, with comments requested by Sep. 11.
5. Fire Alarm & Intrusion Alarm System Replacement: The DSA package is scheduled for submittal on Sep. 11.

College of Continuing Education:

1. Lighting Inverters: A pre-job walk conference is scheduled for Sep. 8.
2. New College of Continuing Education (CCE) Site: An exterior building envelope presentation to the EPC is scheduled for Sep. 8, followed by a Nursing focus group design meeting on Sep. 9.
3. West City Expansion: A Clothing and Textiles focus group meeting is scheduled for Sep. 9.
4. ECC Theatre Renovation: A tour with the bond workforce education team is scheduled for Sep. 9.
5. ECC New Facilities Building: A stakeholder kick-off meeting is scheduled for Sep. 9.
