What are San Diego Promise Program Petitions?

San Diego Promise Petitions allow students to request exceptions or reconsideration of the requirements for their Promise Application. This process gives students the opportunity to share their unique circumstances and seek support or adjustments based on their individual needs.

Submit a Petition 

For Summer 2026 petitions, please submit the San Diego Promise Request Form via Jira for the following petitions. 

  • Reduced Units for Extenuating Circumstances 
  • Disability Support Programs and Services (DSPS) Waiver of Full-Time Status 

For all Fall 2026 petitions, please submit the San Diego Promise Request Form via Element451. 

Petition Review Timeline 

Review Timeline
Requests are reviewed once a week on Tuesday. Submissions received on Tuesdays or after, will be reviewed the following week. 

Petition requirements

  • High school diploma or high school equivalent with graduation year received by the San Diego Community College District.
  • You are classified as a California Resident by the San Diego Community College District.
  • Financial Aid Application was received by the San Diego Community College District: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act application (CADA)
    • Summer 2026: 2025-26 
    • Fall 2026: 2026-27
  • Be enrolled in 12 or more units for the semester in which you are submitting the Petition.
    If you are submitting a Reduced Units for Extenuating circumstances you must be enrolled in AT LEAST 6 units.

San Diego Promise Program Petition Types  

Purpose
The waiver provided by Disability Student Programs and Services assists students with disabilities by allowing them to reduce their course load while still maintaining full-time student status for programs like the Promise Program.

Who Should Apply?
Current Promise Students needing to reduce units.
Prospective Promise Students who have applied but have not yet been admitted.
Students Seeking Readmission who were previously in the Promise Program.

Purpose
For students who were unaware of the San Diego Promise Program and wish to be considered for admission.

Who Should Apply?
Students who have never been admitted to the San Diego Promise Program.

Purpose
For students experiencing personal difficulties or unforeseen circumstances that are impacting their academic commitments and who wish to request reduced units.

Who Should Apply?
Current Promise Students needing to reduce units.
Prospective Promise Students who have applied but have not yet been admitted.
Students Seeking Readmission who were previously in the Promise Program.

Purpose
For students needing to withdraw from the Promise Program or unable to maintain at least six units per semester.

Who Should Apply?
Current students in the Promise Program.

Purpose
For students wishing to return to the Promise Program after a leave of absence.

Who Should Apply?
Previous Promise students seeking readmission.
Students removed from the program due to missing requirements.

Purpose
For students admitted to the Promise Program outside the San Diego Community College District who wish to transfer to SDCCD

Who Should Apply?
Students enrolled in the Promise Program at another college.
