Prior Week’s Key Accomplishments:

City College:

1. “A” Building Expansion: A Schematic Design (SD) meeting with the deans was held on Aug. 11. Interviews with shortlisted Design-Build Entity (DBE) partners, selected from a larger pool of candidates based on their qualifications, were held on Aug. 13–14, followed by a campus architecture meeting with district leadership on Aug. 14.

2. HVAC Replacement at Math and Social Sciences (MS) Building: The district design team reviewed the 50% Construction Documents (CD) and provided comments during the week of Aug. 10.

Mesa College:

1. Design Center Improvements: Backcheck comments from the Division of the State Architect (DSA), which provide follow-up feedback on revisions made in response to the initial plan review, were received on Aug. 7 and will be reviewed during an in-person meeting later this month. The logistics and phasing plan was completed and sent to campus stakeholders for review on Aug. 12, followed by a bid documents working meeting on Aug. 14.

2. Elevator Modernization Learning Resource Center (LRC) Building: The second elevator was installed and passed state inspection on Aug. 11. Equipment for the first elevator was craned into place on Aug. 14, with modernization work beginning immediately afterward.

3. Performing Arts Center (PAC) / Administration & Parking Structure: A parking structure design meeting with the DBE and campus leadership to discuss materiality, finishes, and aesthetics was held on Aug. 11, followed by hazardous soils testing with Kleinfelder on Aug. 13. A DSA pre-application meeting for the parking structure was held on Aug. 14. The 100% SD deliverable was reviewed, and a construction cost estimate was submitted on Aug. 14.

4. Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Upgrades at Allied Health Education (S-100) Building: Installation of three new HVAC units began on Aug. 14.

5. Athletics Complex: A sustainability checklist review meeting was held on Aug. 12 with the DBE and district design team to evaluate how the project is incorporating sustainability goals and requirements into the design. Meetings with the DBE, district design team, and geotechnical engineers were held on Aug. 14 to review findings and recommendations for the fieldhouse building.

Miramar College:

1. Early Education Center: The DBE met with the facilities team on Aug. 10 to review the increment 1 100% CD deliverable.

2. HVAC Upgrades (10 Classrooms and two Offices) at Police Academy (A200) Building: A punch walk was held on Aug. 11.

3. Police Academy (A200) Building Second Floor Remodel Tenant Improvement: A punch walk was held on Aug. 11.

4. Performance Arts Center & English/Gallery Building: The DBE presented updated exterior rendering options to campus leadership on Aug. 12 based on previous feedback.

5. Pool Deck Replacement and Replaster: Development of the 90% CD continued, and the design package was received for campus and district review on Aug. 14.

6. Aviation Instructional Center: The DBE visited the existing hangar on Aug. 14 to document the electrical loads of existing equipment.

College of Continuing Education:

1. ECC Ceramics: A presentation to the campus Executive Planning Committee was held on Aug. 11.

2. West City Expansion: Stakeholder design focus group meetings with Landscaping, District Facilities, Campus Security & Police, and AV Systems were held on Aug. 12.

Coming Week Look-Ahead:

City College:

1. Fire Alarm & Intrusion Alarm Components Replacement: This project includes multiple buildings throughout the campus. The DSA submittal for the Athletics, Exercise Science, and Health (P) Building is targeted for Aug. 20.

Mesa College:

1. Carpet Replacement LRC Building: Final project turnover scheduled for Aug. 17.

2. Athletics Complex: The 100% SD construction cost estimate reconciliation review and a design-assist trade procurement strategy session with the DBE are scheduled for Aug. 17. A design milestone celebration is scheduled for Aug. 19.

3. Performing Arts Center / Administration & Parking Structure: A design milestone celebration is scheduled for Aug. 19. Development of the DSA Phase 1 submittal for the parking structure will continue, with submission targeted for Aug. 21.

4. Pool Building Structural and Door Replacement: Project completion is anticipated by Aug. 21.

Miramar College:

1. Aviation Instructional Center: The DBE will continue development of the 50% CD deliverable and coordinate with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) on the new electrical service required for the building.

2. Performing Arts Center & English/Gallery Building: The DBE will continue development of the 50% DD deliverable, revise the preferred exterior design based on campus feedback, and meet with the campus to present an updated design.

3. Early Education Center: The campus will review the increment 1 100% CD and increment 2 100% DD deliverables. A coordination meeting will also be scheduled to determine whether SDG&E needs to revise the design of the existing gas utility line based on geotechnical recommendations.

College of Continuing Education:

1. Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) Ceramics: A project scope review with user groups is scheduled for Aug. 17.

2. West City Expansion: Focus group meetings with Culinary Arts and Student Support Services are scheduled for Aug. 17, followed by a Clothing and Textiles focus group meeting on Aug. 20.

3. Mid-City Expansion: A Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) review is scheduled for Aug. 20 to review the proposed construction cost and confirm alignment with the project scope and budget.

Key Items of Interest:

1. Continuing Education Vocational Nurse Simulation Lab: The project is currently on hold pending funding confirmation and additional campus justification for temporarily relocating the lab from Harbor View Campus to North City Campus. Additional information is needed to clarify the timing and benefits of investing in a temporary facility that is expected to relocate again within two to three years.

2. Design Build Lessons Learned: A forum with all nine DBE teams is scheduled for Aug. 21 to discuss lessons learned, including best practices, successful approaches, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
