Dr. Marichu Magaña is in her first term as a trustee. She is the first Asian-Pacific American to serve on the Board. She spent 25 years serving as a professor and counselor at San Diego Mesa College, where she focused her efforts on student success and providing the conditions for limited-income, first-generation to college, and students with disabilities to thrive. As the grant director of the TRIO Student Support Services Program, she successfully garnered millions of dollars in funding to support students. She was also actively involved in the campus serving on Accreditation, Academic Senate, Program Review, Facilities, numerous screening committees as the EEO Representative, and more. Dr. Magaña was also involved in the Western Association of Educational Opportunity Personnel, serving as the Chief Financial Officer for the 700+ member organization consisting of higher education institutions and nonprofits from the Western United States and the Pacific Islands. and on numerous U.S. Department of Education TRIO and GEARUP Program panels responsible for evaluating project proposals in highly competitive grant competitions. A longtime member of the Asian Pacific American Psychological Association, Marichu served as a co-editor for the quarterly Asian American Psychologist newsletter for many years. 

Marichu earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego, a Master’s Degree in Counseling from San Diego State University, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University.
